Working at Nova System

A small Canadian team building the software an immigration practice actually needs, inside a practice that uses it every day.

Nova System Inc. is based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. We build Meridian, the platform behind this website: a case management system, an automatic IRCC form filler, a mobile app, an e-signature service and a policy watchtower for Canadian immigration practices.

The company is small on purpose. Everyone here is close to the work, which means the person who writes the code has usually watched a consultant struggle with the thing being fixed.

How we work

  • We ship what we use. The software runs a real practice. A bad decision shows up in someone week, not in a dashboard.
  • Accuracy over speed. This is immigration. A form filled wrong is somebody life delayed, so we would rather be slow and right.
  • Say the hard thing. The website says plainly that we are not SOC 2 certified and that we are not taking new firms yet. Same standard inside.
  • Small team, wide scope. Nobody here has one narrow job.

Open roles

There are no posted roles today. That is the honest answer rather than a wall of invented job descriptions.

We do read everything that arrives. If you are an RCIC who wants to shape the tools, an engineer who cares about careful software, or someone who can explain complicated things clearly in writing, send a note about what you would want to work on. Include something you have built, written or run.

What we are working on

The next version of Meridian is the current job. It is the reason we are not taking new firms yet: the platform is being rebuilt properly rather than patched, and we would rather open late than open badly.

Around that sit the parts that are already live: the automatic form filler, the AutoFile extension for the IRCC portals, Aurora on iOS and Android, Signet for signing, and the intelligence feeds that watch IRCC policy.

Are you hiring right now?

Not for a posted role. We are a small team finishing the next version. When a role opens it will be listed here first.

What would you want from an RCIC?

Someone who has actually run files and can tell us, bluntly, where the software is wrong. Most of what is good in Meridian came from that kind of feedback.

Do you take interns or students?

Occasionally, for real work rather than coffee. Write and tell us what you want to learn and what you can already do.

Where is the team?

Abbotsford, British Columbia. The work is remote friendly but Canadian immigration practice is the subject, so understanding it matters more than your postal code.
